Problem StatementCedar Run creek currently flows through the Northwest Neighborhood in the city of Roanoke, Virginia. In the early 1900's a culvert system was built to contain the stream underground, and allow minor construction on top of the stream. Increased flooding downstream, increased stream velocity, lack of infiltration, and the lack of natural habit are all problems associated with a buried stream. The goal of this project is to provide options and designs to daylight Cedar Run to restore natural stream and help mitigate flooding with hopes that it will reconnect the community with the environment. We want to preserve, enhance, and restore the natural hydrology of the watershed.
